Whether you or your loved one needs therapy, you will need some research to find the best therapist. Even with that, things are not as tough as they used to be. Today, with little to no research, you can find an expert to help you with your needs. Let us look at some of the reasons getting a therapist is easier than ever.
1. There are Helpful Websites
There are so many websites for therapists that you can use to find the best experts to help handle your situation. Besides review sites, some websites have been developed to make it easier to find some of the best therapists with good reputations in the industry.
All you have to search based on your location and the nature of the services you are looking for. You will be spoilt for choice when you learn that there are so many experts within your vicinity.
2. You Can Talk To Your Provider Directly
In case you are looking for therapy via your insurance plan, then all you need is to talk to your healthcare provider. In your plan’s provider network, you will find so many options that you can go by.
It is vital to ascertain whether your plan limits your options so that you don’t breach the terms of the contract. If your yearly sessions are limited, then be sure to stay within the boundaries.
You don’t have to worry about limits if you intend to pay from your pockets.
3. You Can Ask Someone You Trust
There is a possibility that among your friends and loved ones, there are people who have dealt with therapists before. Thus, you don’t have to start looking for one online. Ask them for a referral, and they will direct you to the right person. They will even give you some helpful details such as the name of the therapist, his/her location, fees charged, and how good they are. This is one of the main reasons therapists are easier to find these days.
4. You Can Use Good Online Database
Did you know that a good number of health facilities keep searchable databases online? That is right, and this only makes therapists even easier to find. The therapists in these databases are all good, so you can trust the services they provide.
You can search by just keying in your ZIP code so that you are prompted with a comprehensive list of therapists in your region. It is also possible to search based on the sort of services you are looking for.
5. You Can Explore Local Resources
In your community, there might be some free resources that you could use to find reliable therapists. For instance, if you are a college student, your school might give you access to an experienced counselor. If you are an employed person, your human resource department might help you find a therapist. This could be someone who is trained to help with workplace wellness, etc.
6. You Can Reach Out To Organizations
If you are struggling with a mental issue, for instance, through a national association, you might find a good therapist. You can also use a helpline or a good network. If you are in the US, you can use organizations like the National Center for PSTD, Anxiety and Depression Association of America, and National Eating Disorders Association. If your job is stressing you up, it is also possible to find help through local organizations. Note that you should not pay any fees to access these services.
7. You can Use an Online Therapy App
Last but not least, you can download some online therapy applications and access the services you have. The good thing with the apps is that there are free and paid versions. They also have different categories to address various health issues. You can download some and give them a hot to see how helpful they are.
Closing Thoughts
Before technology got better, it is so hard to find good therapists. Today, you can search the internet for licensed therapists. If you are looking to pay from your pocket, you can work with any therapist, but if you intend to use an insurance plan, then you will have some limitations that you should be aware of. Otherwise, the points shared above are some of the many reasons therapists have become so easy to find these days.
Thank you so much for writing this! I completely agree with you that the internet has made it so much easier to find a therapist. There are also many companies that match you with therapists specifically chosen for you! I found my current therapist (who is AMAZING btw) through a website called joinreflect.com, but they are based primarily in California. I am sure there are many other sites like that in other states as well.
The one caveat with having so much information on the internet to find a therapist is that I found myself spoilt for choice, so a company that matches you directly with a therapist can be really helpful to weed out all the noise. (At least it helped for me). Just wanted to leave this here as an alternative resource in case anyone was interested, all of the other options you provided as well are great, and tried and tested 🙂
