Natural Pet Food for Your Best Friend

One member of the family truly is always ‘there’ for you. You know, the one who runs to meet you at the door when you get home? The one who wants to play, exercise, and sleep next to you no matter how their day has gone? Heck, they’ll do just about anything to make you happy.

You know who we’re talking about, right? Your dog! That furry family member who offers you unconditional love every day of the week, and who you love back just as much, if not more. But how do you return your dog’s love? Besides taking him or her for walks, playing fetch, cuddling on the couch and offering the occasional treat? Do you feed your dog a healthy, natural diet?

Did you know that a diet formulated with wholesome, natural ingredients could help your dog live a longer, healthier life, but that most dog foods aren’t made up of natural ingredients?

Veterinarian’s Weigh In

Why are natural dog food diets so important anyway? “Natural products go far beyond just basic nutrition,” says Dr. Al Townshend, staff Veterinarian at Wellness® Pet Food. “Natural diets are designed to provide the very best nutrition and can have significant benefits.”

In fact, according to Dr. Townshend, “natural diets offer ingredients with some important health benefits such as probiotics, those good bacteria that are essential for a healthy immune system and digestive tract; glucosamine and chondroitin for joint health; omega-3 fatty acids or fish oils for heart and kidney health; and added digestive supplements to enhance digestibility to get the very best benefits from quality proteins and fats.”

Natural Pet Food For Cats, Too!

Here’s our cat, Paris. She’s been eating natural pet food since the day she came home. She has the softest coat I’ve ever seen or felt in a cat. She’s also extremely healthy!

  1. I have to go home and check my kitties Meow Mix right away! It is definitely their favorite cat food, but I have been worried about these exact same issues recently. Thanks for sharing. This food looks great!

    1. It’s surprising what you’ll find on many “big name” pet foods. If you switch them just mix in a bit of their food with the old food and then gradually increase the new and decrease the old over the course of a week or two until you are no longer giving the old food. I bet they will love the healthy stuff too.

I had to switch Paris from whatever they were feeding her where I got her to the healthier stuff and she did fine and loves her food!

  2. I work really hard to take care of my cat, especially since he’s been sick in the past. But because I do take care of him properly, he’s never had a hairball, a cold, etc. His issues are more genetic.

  3. My pets love Wellness food. We learned in a puppy kindergarten class about the different types of food and what was best for pets. I had no idea how much junk and filler were in some brands. I only want to eat real food and my pets deserve the same!

  4. I just switched my cat from one of the big-name brand cat foods to a much healthier one. Once I looked at the ingredients, I was kinda grossed out about we were feeding him!

  5. This is a timely article/review. So much pet food has been recalled lately because of damaging ingredients. It’s true that a pet’s food often gets overlooked, as far as nutrition. But they are definitely a vital part of the family. Thanks for sharing!

  6. When the big corn gluten recall happened several years ago we started getting our cats natural food! They love it and haven’t eaten anything else since then! Besides their natural treats of course! =)

  7. I just got a new puppy… yikes, didn’t know about all this. We’re definitely going to have to look at the food and consider new options!
