_I received a sampler of Daregal Gourmet fresh frozen herbs to review as a part of a Blog Friendly PR campaign. All opinions are my own and no compensation was received._
With Fall comes many great new things like apples and pumpkins but it also means the end of garden season for those of us in four season climates. No more fresh produce, farmer’s markets, back yard vegetables and unless you’ve got a great indoor gardening green thumb, this probably also means the end of fresh herbs. Honestly, not much beats a fresh picked and chopped variety of herbs in a great pasta sauce. Whether homemade or a doctored up jar sauce (recipe below).
Until now! I am so very excited about Daregal Gourmet Fresh Frozen Herbs!!! I’ve tried them and I’m impressed! I can always tell the difference between fresh and dried herbs but there’s no telling between fresh and frozen. And, no chopping, weeding, watering, planting either!
Shortcut Spaghetti Sauce
One of my favorite weeknight easy recipes is simply doctoring a jarred spaghetti sauce. I usually start with a large plastice jar of Ragu Traditional. I think its 45 ounces. This will make a double batch and freezes great. A lot of times we will use the leftover sauce to mix with macaroni, put it in a baking dish, cover it with cheese and bake. Yum!
2lb Ground Beef
1 Pk Sweet Italian Sausage- casings removed
1/2 Chopped Red Onion
2 Tbs DaRegal Frozen Garlic
1 Tbs DaRegal Frozen Basil
1 Tbs Olive Oil
Salt & Pepper to taste
Steps are numbered in the picture above.
1./2. Saute Basil, Garlic and Onions in Olive Oil until onions are transulcent.
3. Remove from pan, set aside.
4. Brown ground beef and sausage together until cooked. Drain grease.
5. Add sauteed herbs and onions to the meat. Mix well. Simmer for 3-5 minutes.
6. Pour in sauce.
7.I like to put this all in a crockpot at this point in the morning on low all day but its fine to just simmer for a bit and serve from here.
8. Serve over hot cooked pasta and enjoy!

I use alot of herbs and I think this frozen product sounds awesome!
I use herbs in all different ways..I love to make homemade pesto:) yum! I also love to add fresh herbs at the end of a dish to give it that “bright, fresh” taste!
Thanks for the chance to win!!
Funny enough when I had the basil, garlic and onions sautéing my husband came in and asked if I was making pesto! I think I am going to whip some up! I love pesto on Tri colored tortellini!
LOL..cool! Sounds delicous! I meant to tell you I think your recipe above sounds and looks awesome! Spaghetti is one of my fave meals of my brothers and I wanna try your version! yum! Thanks!
It’s funny that you mentioned Daregal Gourmet Fresh Frozen Herbs because I keep seeing them in my grocery store but haven’t investigated any further.
Do they compare well to fresh herbs? I’m curious to know. I’d like to pick some up the next time I go shopping but want to ensure the flavor of the herbs isn’t compromised by having been frozen.
LOVE the recipe for a doctored jar of spaghetti sauce!
I really think the flavor holds nicely! I’m thinking any mild loss of flavor (which I really didn’t notice) is replaced by the fact that one- I’m not chopping, peeling, removing stems and two- I don’t have to worry about using it all up before it goes bad. I’m definitely a new fan! But, as you know I love shortcuts!
I use them everyday. I like to use fresh as much as possible.
I am so ready to jazz up my ordinary spaghetti with something like this! Dropping by from the Bloggy Moms hop.
I love pesto but don’t have a food processor, so I just chop up my herbs and pine nuts and shred some fresh parmesan over angel hair pasta with a drizzle of olive oil. It’s a yummy side dish served hot or cold, or for an entree add grilled chicken and fresh chopped tomato. I haven’t ever purchased frozen herbs, so I would love to try this product.
My son is becoming quite the chef and therefore I would give him this prize for him to experiment even more and I reap the fruits when he invites my hubby and myself over to feast with him.
I like to use herbs in pasta sauces, savory bread recipes and on top of potatoes when I am roasting them.
Oooh, nice! I love herbs but you can’t grow them 24/7 when you’re moving around and then you forget and leave them outside in inclement weather. These would come in so handy, especially when I take stuff to someone else’s home to cook there! Good review!
I cook a lot of Mexican food and use cilantro most of the time. It isn’t always convenient to have fresh cilantro available and so I would love to try their cilantro.
My favorite way is using fresh basil to make pesto!
I love making my own sauces and adding herbs to make it unique…this sounds amazing!
