Since I didn’t really cook anything today, I thought I would share one recipe that I did make. My version of McDonald’s Sweet Tea without all of the sugar and cost! I bought a box of 100 all natural black tea bags on sale at Rite Aid for a buck. $0.12! And I used about $3 worth of Splenda. Which may be a little more expensive than sugar but it cut nearly 2,000 calories out of the gallon! $3.12 for the gallon or about $0.20 per cup! Yummy!
- 12 tea bags
- 1/4 Tsp Baking Soda
- 4 Cups Boiling Water
- 2 Cups Granulated Splenda or 3 Cups Sugar (No longer sugar free)
- 12 Cups Cold Water
- Optional 1/4 Cup of Honey (too taste if desired) and/or Lemon Juice
Bring the 4 Cups of water to a boil. Remove from heat. Add baking soda (cuts out the bitter taste from the tea’s tannin). Add the tea bags. Walk away! Wash the dishes, sweep the floors. Dance on the coffee table while the kids are at school. Let rest for at least 15 minutes. Stir in sweetener(s). Pour into a one-gallon pitcher. Add cold water to the top (to equal one gallon). Served best over ice! Sooooo tasty!!!
You can make flavor variations with add-ins like Fresh Mint (DELICIOUS!) or an envelope of flavored but unsweetened Kool-Aid. Enjoy!
(Yes, I’m clinging to summer with all I’ve got!!!)
