When it comes to improving the lighting of the home, normally the focus is on how you can introduce more natural light or give the home new light fixtures to more effectively provide visibility. However, the opposite can be just as much of a problem, as well. If you’re getting too much light, there can be an uncomfortable glare that you have to deal with and a room can become painful to spend too much time in. As such, here are a few ways to deal with the problem of too much light.
Switch up your window treatments
If you’re not getting enough shade from the sunlight, then the easiest way to change that is to adjust which window treatments that you’re using. Switching out sheer curtains for those that are more opaque can do you a world of good. Blinds allow for more adjustment of how much light you’re getting into the home, so you can make it lighter or darker as the situation demands. You should also opt for solid blinds rather than fabric, as light can get through translucent fabric much more easily.
Take it to the windows themselves
Of course, aside from managing the materials on either side of the windows, making changes to the actual windows themselves can do a lot of good, as well. One option is to opt for commercial window tinting services near you, which are able to add a darker shade to your windows so that they don’t let as much light through. What’s more, tinted windows are also great for managing the privacy of your space without having to rely on heavier window treatments that might also block your view.
Add some greenery around it
You might want to prevent the sun from coming all too strongly through the windows, but you don’t want to keep the light out entirely. If that’s the case, then you should look at the benefits of adding a little plant life. You can either make use of strategic placement of bushes or trees outside the home, or you can use potted plants that you can add to the interior windowsill. Whichever option you choose, it doesn’t completely stop natural light, but it does add some nice shade to the equation.
Black it out entirely
If the problem is that you’re getting too much light in a room like your bedroom and it’s preventing you from sleeping, then you might want to take a more drastic approach. We’ve already covered window treatments that can add a little more shade, but few are as effective at keeping out the light entirely as blackout blinds. As the name suggests, these are designed to completely blackout the room, blocking out light as best as possible. If you want to be doubly sure that the job is done, you can add curtains over them, too.
With the tips above, hopefully, you can manage the light in your home to get exactly as much as you need, no more, no less.
