Montana is one of the top places to go for new adventures. If you’re traveling through the state, you’ll have no trouble finding plenty of ways to have a good time and make the most of your visit. By trying any of these four awesome activities, you’ll be able to immerse yourself in some of the best experiences that Montana has to offer.

Hiking

The rugged terrains and vast wilderness areas in Montana offer great hiking conditions. You can visit Glacier or Yellowstone to hike along the many hiking trails that are found in these national parks. If you want to venture even more off the beaten path, you can go hiking in Lolo National Forest and avoid some of the larger crowds. The Ousel Falls hiking trail will lead you to a beautiful waterfall that looks especially stunning when it’s viewed during the summer.

River Rafting

Whether you want something that’s calm and smooth or bumpy and fast, many of the rivers in Montana feature excellent rafting conditions with varying water speeds and turbulence levels. Many sections along the Bitterroot River are calm and perfect for relaxing float trips. For whitewater river rafting, you can have the thrill of a lifetime while you take an organized tour along the Alberton Gorge of the Clark Fork River. Despite its name, the Stillwater River is another great place to go for a whitewater adventure.

Wildlife Watching

Montana is home to some of nature’s most fascinating wildlife species, and you can view many of these creatures from safe distances in different parts of the state. The Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary is home to bears, bobcats and porcupines along with many other native animals. You can see horses roaming in the wild at the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range. More wildlife creatures are viewable at the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center.

Rock Climbing

If you have the equipment and knowledge or sign up for a guided tour that includes equipment rentals and safety instructions, you can go rock climbing at Montana’s best spots. Stone Hill and Kootenai Canyon have long been popular places for rock climbing. Hellgate Gulch is often more suitable for seasoned climbers, and mountain goats are sometimes seen at the top. For something that’s even more daring, you can try making your way up the ice climb in Hyalite Canyon.

As you can see, there’s no shortage of fun things to do in Montana. If you’re ready to take a walk on the wild side, you can try any of these thrilling activities that are sure to leave you with many great stories to tell.
