Many of us have wish lists when it comes to travel with the dream destinations we’ve always wanted to visit. We spend time ticking them off, one by one, traveling far and wide seeking out the perfect beaches, exotic climates, and historical cities. Yet, we often neglect countries that aren’t as far afield, believing that to see the best of the best, we must travel to far away locations. This isn’t always the case. Europe has so much to offer: fantastic scenery, rich history, delicious food and beautiful culture.
Before visiting any of these countries be sure to check out some great travel guides from Mr Hudson Explores. Here are six countries in Europe you simply must see before you die.
France
There are so many reasons to visit France. Whether you prefer the sun and sea of the south coast or the romance of Paris, you should visit at least one part of France once before you die. While different areas have their own culture, history, and reasons to visit, they all have a few things in common.
French food is some of the best in the world. Wine, cheese, bread and pastries are made all over the country, each area having their own flavours and specialities. Other things to see and do in France include great museums and galleries such as The Louvre, landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, and historic locations such as the Chateau de Versailles.
Germany
Many cities in Germany are totally modern and fantastically traditional, all at the same time. Some of the best cities to visit are those filled with history such as Berlin. Berlin is the city which shows off and embraces German history the most, with architecture from many ages all around the city, the remains of the Berlin wall and Check point Charlie, as well as countless museums and galleries devoted to World War 2, which seek to both reminisce and educate.
Italy
Italy is one of the most romantic countries on earth. Filled with generous people, beautiful scenery and art, and fabulous food. Italy is a must for any food or art lover and definitely the place to go if you are keen to learn more about either.
Scotland
Scotland is often overlooked in favour of places like London or Dublin. However, Scotland has a different kind of beauty. Cities such as Edinburgh and Glasgow are fantastic shopping locations with amazing nightlife and food. But, to see Scotland at its best head to a Loch or historic castle.
Belgium
Belgium, like Germany, has a great blend of modern and traditional. To make the most of your trip, visit picturesque towns such as Bruges or Ghent where you can drink awesome beers, eat the best chocolate in the world, and admire the intricate architecture.
Sweden
Everyone should aim to visit at least one Scandinavian country in their lifetime. The culture, art, history, food, and lifestyle in Sweden and its neighbouring countries is in many ways very different from other places in Europe. But, Scandinavians generally work shorter days, earn more, have a better quality of life, and a longer life expectancy so they’re clearly doing something the rest of us could learn from.
Planning your visit and reading guides will help you to make sure you see all these destinations have to offer, and fully make the most of your time there.
