Everyone always has advice for you when you have a newborn. They have comments on what you are doing, they have little bits of advice that they like to give, and they have fun little facts that they like to come out with, but it’s all the same. It’s all the same things that have been said time and time again, with nobody ever bothering to veer off this course and tell you something useful. In this article, we’re going to be telling you something different, we’re going to be looking at three of the things that nobody tells you when you have a newborn. Keep reading down below if you would like to find out more.
Most Of Them Sleep A Lot
Despite common belief, newborn babies actually sleep quite a lot. Yes, you do get babies that don’t want to sleep, and they cry a lot, but this is less common than you would think. Most newborns sleep for most of the day, only waking up to eat and poop mainly. Other than this, you will find them happily asleep either in your arms, in a moses basket or wherever you put them.
You want to make the most of this while you can because it absolutely does not last. Some babies are good sleepers and some are not, but we highly recommend making the most of the first week or two when they sleep all the time.
It’s Okay If You Don’t Connect Straight Away
One of the most important things that you need to know is that it’s okay if you do not connect straight away with your newborn. When you watch TV or read on social media, you always read about the mothers who felt that overwhelming feeling of love the second they held their baby in their arms, but this is not the case for all women. In fact, some women take a while to bond with their baby, especially if they have had a difficult pregnancy or birth. The feeling will come, you just have to give it time and not be too hard on yourself. For some women it will take a few days, for others it might be a couple of weeks, but it does come, and it’s okay.
You Will Want To Watch Them 24/7
The last thing that we’re going to mention is that you are probably going to want to watch your newborn 24/7. You’re going to want to look at them while they eat, while they sleep, and pretty much never want to take your eyes off them. It’s completely normal, but make sure you’re getting time for you!
This is only going to get worse when they start teething as you’re going to panic about them being in pain, so make sure that you fully understand pain relief for teething babies as much as you can so that you can relax a little.
