Fish are often viewed as a boring choice for a pet, especially in comparison with dogs, cats, hamsters, and rabbits, all of which are furry, cuddly, and can be played with whenever you like. However, fish are actually great pets, especially for a lively family. There are many reasons for this, but here are my top three.
- Easy To Take Care Of
Compared to other pets, fish are relatively easy to take care of. They don’t need cleaning out every couple of days like rabbits and hamster and don’t require walking every day like dogs. They also won’t track in dirt and mud from outside and ruin your carpet, shed any fur, drool everywhere, chew your furniture, or use your favourite pillow as a scratching post. In fact, all they need is to be fed morning and evening, which is something your child could easily do themselves. Of course, they need to be cleaned out too, but not nearly as much as other pets, especially if you have a decent filter.
- Can Stay Home Alone
Most pets, especially dogs and cats, tend to get very attached to their owners, and so become very anxious and even destructive when left at home alone. This means that some owners have to resort to hiring a pet sitter for when they’re at work. They might also struggle to go on holiday, as it’s not always possible to take your pets with you, and even if it is, it then means that you’ll have to take your pet with you every time you leave your accommodation while you’re away. Fish, on the other hand, couldn’t care less if you leave them at home all day, as they’re perfectly content in their tank. You can even leave them at home alone while you go on holiday, as long as you put a fish feeding block into their tank.
- Calm And Beautiful
Fish are quiet and calming creatures; You never have to worry about them annoying your neighbours or waking up the baby with their noise. They also come in a variety of different shapes and sizes, so an aquarium can be a stunning addition to your home, as long as it’s properly maintained. All you need is a tank and the proper equipment, like those from saltwater, and a range of fish that are all able to live together peacefully. Then, you can add and change decorations and plants within your tank, to ensure that it’s always looking fresh and magnificent.
Contrary to popular belief, fish make great pets. They’re beautiful, interesting, and aren’t as much hassle as your average dog or parrot. They’re also the furthest thing from boring; In fact, you can find incredibly playful and friendly fish, some of which will even interact with their owners and try to play. Of course, you will need to put in some cash and effort to get the perfect tank and fish to suit you, but once you’ve done this, I’m sure an aquarium will brighten up your home no end.
