This summer I’ve learned a lot about all of the things I’ve been missing out on. I live in the White Mountains of Northern New Hampshire. There are so many beautiful mountains to hike and plenty of places to camp. Not to mention the fishing, swimming and nature walks and drives.
Now that I’m getting healthier, losing weight (65 pounds lost so far!), and really connecting with nature a whole lot more it’s time to get geared up! There are still a few weeks left of summer and in the fall here in New England hiking will be the ultimate adventure thanks to the beautiful, colorful foliage!
I just signed my family up for a really fun program called “Mountains of Family Fun” nearby at Franconia Notch State Park. It’s a series of interactive programs presented by the Appalachian Mountain Club where we will discover HikeSafe, Staying found with NE K-9, Leave No Trace , and Astronomy/Solar observations plus a family hike to a place called, “Artists Bluff.” The name alone is enough to get me running up the mountain!
My goal for next summer is to hike Mt. Washington – home of the World’s Worst Weather and the highest peak in the Northeastern United States at 6,288 ft. I’ve started hiking here and there, trying to try one new place each weekend. Each place is slightly bigger than the last, working my way up to that big climb!
If there’s one thing I know – besides physical conditioning, I’m going to need to be prepared with top notch outdoor adventure sports gear. Lucky for me The Clymb currently has some awesome clearance hiking gear and discount outdoor gear. The first two Outdoor Adventure Sports Gear things I’m buying are new packs. I found these two on The Clymb and immediately fell in love.
The Madden Equipment Penguin Pack
Madden Equipment aims to build the last pack you’ll ever have to own, and the hand-sewn details speak for themselves. The 32-liter Penguin has a traditional top-loading design with additional storage space in the lid, perfect for overnight excursions, a trip to the crag, or anywhere else your adventurous spirit takes you.
CAMELBAK Women’s Day Star
I think I’ll have the hubs carry the Penguin and I’ll don the Women’s Day Star Camelbak. Seriously, I think I need one of these on my back all day even at my desk! Kidding! (I think!) This Camelbak is a women’s-specific hydration pack with enough room to fit a day’s worth of hiking gear. And it’s only $54.98 right now!
Talk to me! Are you into hiking? What are your outdoor adventure sports gear must haves?
I like that Camelback a lot. I have a few of thier water bottles.
I’m ordering it right after I finish the whole Back to School shopping fiasco! Three kids – none of which fit in anything they wore before summer anymore.
I love that penguin pack! I’ve hiked the highest peak in Georgia but it doesn’t compare to Mt. Washington!
It’s a BIG goal but I have spent my entire life looking at that Mountain. How cool will it be to reach the top?!
I’m not a hiker by nature, but I do love walking on trails. We did a bunch of trails this past spring with my son’s Cub Scout pack that were lots of fun.
I really enjoy trail walking, too. Nature offers so many beautiful things!
Congrats on your weight loss. That program sounds like fun for the family and I love the packs.
Thanks, Debbie! I love that there are free programs that encourage healthier living and enjoying the great outdoors!
I am somewhat into hiking. I think I will be more, when my baby is not a baby anymore!
I can imagine that hiking with a baby is a whole new level of challenge! I can’t say that I blame you!
I’ve never been hiking before but it looks like so much fun! It wouldn’t be too bad with all this gear!
I always thought, “Why would you do that?” until I reached my first peak and then I was just like “ohhhh!” It’s exhilarating!
These packs look amazing! And congrats on 65 pounds- that’s awesome!
Thank you, Shell! It feels pretty awesome!
I LOVE hiking! I recently took my son on a hike and he has caught the hiking fever as well! I would love one of these backpacks they look amazing!
I love hiking with the kiddos, too! It’s so much fun!
We love to go hiking as a family. So proud of you and your accomplishments.
Thank you Anjanette! When I think back to all of the things I’ve missed out on and my overall quality of life I become even more motivated!
Those are both nice packs. The right equipment can make all the difference in the world.
I agree! It’s so important to be prepared and the right equipment is a great first step!
This is some really nice sports gear! I’m loving the women’s pack.
Isn’t it fantastic?!
I love that purple Camlbak! Great color too
The color really stood out to me, too!
I’m not into hiking but that camelback seems awesome. I could get one for our trips to the zoo and around town.
I love walking and hiking. I just wish I could do more of it. I have dreams of someday doing the Jon Muir trail or the Appalachian Trail.
That Camelbak would be so handy to have for a hike! I would love to have one.
Good for you on the weight loss, involving your family and setting high goals. Proper gear is a must to complete any big hike!
This is some nice gear. I have friends in Colorado who would love this!
These look really comfy and convenient! Thanks for sharing.
I am not much of a hiker, but I know a lot of runners who use a CamelBak. They love them.
We use one of these when we go hiking! I love having it. I think we’re going to have to get another one.
This gear looks amazing. With things like that it would definitely be motivating to hike more often!
What great options! I know many friends that believe in these for hiking.
cute purple bag! I have hiked a couple small hills “mountains” but I would love to get more into it.
