If you’ve just moved into a new home, your need to look out for potentially worrying signs doesn’t end here! Yes, you’ve got a lovely new place to settle into, but who knows what condition the house is really in, especially if there was no survey done? That’s why you need to stay on the lookout for signs that could be both something or nothing – here are just a few of the most common you’ll want to see to as soon as possible.

Don’t Ignore Funny Smells

Funny smells are annoying at best and downright horrible at worst. If you walk into your new home and notice there’s a weird scent in the air, don’t just cover it up with air fresheners or candles. Get investigating and find out if there’s a cause somewhere deeper in the home. It could just be a simple need to throw away some forgotten garbage, or it could be a sign there’s a dangerous blockage somewhere, or maybe even gas in the atmosphere. Check it out, dig deep, and find the cause before you go any further.

Quickly Stop Any Flickering Lights

If the lights in your new home are flickering, it could just be a matter of changing the bulbs and getting on with your day. However, if you’ve done that and they’re still flickering, it could be a sign something is wrong with the fixture or the wiring in the walls. And if there’s a problem with the wiring, a fire could start up at any point without you even realising it. Make sure to call in someone who knows how to handle electricity safely to get them to investigate.

Look for Pest Droppings

Pest droppings are troublesome at the best of times, but when you’ve just moved in, they can spell disaster! After all, this is a sign something already lives in the house before you got a chance to settle in. Which is why you need to get online and search for a pest control near me service as soon as possible. Getting pests out of the house is something you shouldn’t delay on, as the problem could be rafters and joists deep at this point.

Any Problems with the Pipes

If the pipes in your home seem to be in good condition, double check to be sure. It’s hard to tell when a pipe is about to burst without being in the room when it goes, so head around now and see how they’re holding up. Are they cold or even frozen in some areas? Do they look old and rusty in others? Can you see that part of the pipe system has already been replaced? All these can be warning signs that something is wrong with the plumbing and needs an expert eye.

If you’ve just moved into a home, don’t settle just yet! Go round and check on areas like these first of all, and don’t let something nasty take you by surprise.
