If you’re a homeowner, then you’re likely all too familiar with the rigors of home maintenance. If you want to keep your property looking nice, then you have to look after it. This can be a constant battle, but it’s more than worth the effort. If a job gets neglected for too long, then something minor can easily turn into a disaster.

There’s nothing worse than a plumbing-related disaster. When your plumbing goes, you can end up having to spend time, effort, and far too much money getting things fixed up. You don’t just have to repair the plumbing system itself, but you might also have to tackle water damage from flooding.

Depending on the problem, the water damage can be severe enough to cause structural damage to your property. Even if it isn’t, you can lose valuable belongings, some of which may be irreplaceable. With this in mind, it’s best to handle plumbing issues as quickly as possible. Here are some to look out for.

Sinks and Faucets

Sinks see a lot of use in the household. You use your sinks every day, multiple times a day. This means that it can be easy to ignore little problems, but they usually don’t take long to fix, especially when they’re still minor.

A dripping faucet doesn’t seem that severe, but you can end up wasting gallons of water in a year through a faucet that just won’t stop dripping. This drives up your utility bills and damages the environment, but you can generally fix it in no time, often without even calling a plumber.

Other common sink-related problems include blocked drains, which can often be unblocked with the judicious use of baking soda, bleach, or other cleaning chemicals. In the worst case, you may need to call a plumber to clear a particularly badly clogged drain, but you often can manage these issues yourself.

You might also notice that the drainage pipe has a leak. In this case, it’s best to call a plumber as the pipe might need replacing.

Preventing Burst Pipes

There are a few causes for burst pipes, but as the weather is getting cooler, it’s wise to consider how winter can affect your pipes. If you live in a cold area, then your exterior pipes may freeze. This can lead to burst pipes and, in severe cases, flooding.

One way to prevent this is to insulate your pipes. This is often a simple job and involves wrapping your pipes with foam tubes, which prevents them from freezing and keeps your water flowing.

Septic System

The chances are that you never think about the septic system in your home, but they are an integral part of your plumbing system. If your septic system breaks down, then it needs to be fixed as soon as possible.

You can get septic services to keep your system running smoothly. This includes replacing or installing a system, inspecting your septic system, repairing any issues, and keeping it well maintained.
