If your children have written their letters to Santa Claus, chances are one thing at the top of their wish list is a new puppy. Great companions for kids, a puppy may be just what is needed to make your children’s Christmas even more special. But before Santa comes sliding down the chimney with a new canine friend for your kids, make sure you and St. Nick are on the same page as to which type of puppy would be best for your kids. For some suggestions, here are some puppies that are great with kids.

Labrador Retriever

The most popular dog in the nation, a Labrador Retriever puppy will grow up to be your child’s best friend for many years. Laid-back and great with kids and other animals, a Labrador Retriever puppy will have lots of energy, be very playful, and be easy to train to do tricks and other basic commands.

Maltipoo

Maltipoo puppies are not only cute, but they are also very loving and gentle. Additionally, Maltipoos are super trainable and smart so an overall great puppy choice for your family. Since Maltipoo’s are small, however, they can get injured easily so typically it’s recommended to only get this dog for kids once they are old enough to recognize their size and strength.

Bulldogs

Extremely loyal like Maltipoo puppies and calmer than you may realize, a Bulldog puppy responds well to being trained, is good with other family pets, and will also be very protective of your kids. But unlike a Lab, your Bulldog puppy may be a bit less active. Thus, if you are wanting a dog that won’t require constant exercising, a Bulldog can be a great addition to the family.

Beagle

If your kids are big fans of Snoopy, they may be begging to have their very own Beagle puppy. Small and easy to care for since their short hair requires very little grooming, a Beagle puppy will be very friendly and curious around your kids. Able to be trained somewhat quickly, your Beagle puppy will be very active and require plenty of exercises, so plan on taking your kids and their new puppy to a nearby park quite often.

Newfoundland

If your kids want a puppy that will grow up to be a big dog, you can’t go wrong by getting them a Newfoundland. When fully grown, a Newfoundland may weigh as much as 150 pounds and be nearly 30 inches tall. If you and your kids can handle a large dog as part of the family, your “Newf” will be patient and devoted to your family throughout its life. Famous for being good companions, they live about 10 years on average.

Whether you select a Maltipoo or other breed listed here, you and your kids will soon have a canine family member who will bring an extra amount of joy to your Christmas season.
