You shouldn’t feel helpless or embarrassed if you suffer from anxiety. Anxiety is a growing problem in our society and something many of us deal with on a daily basis. Besides seeking professional help, there are many things you can do to relieve your anxiety. Here are four tried-and-true methods you can practice.

Exercise

Exercise should be a part of everyone’s daily care routine and is especially beneficial at relieving anxiety. When we exercise, our bodies release endorphins which function as mild painkillers. Just five minutes of aerobic exercise starts to lower tension. Even a daily walk is beneficial to our wellbeing. If you want to get even more benefits from exercising, try going to a yoga class. You will have the opportunity to be active and stretch your muscles while also incorporating meditation. It can be hard to get into a regular exercise routine at first, but push yourself to do it for a couple of weeks. After that, it will become a habit and you will crave daily movement as a type of therapy.

Get More Sleep

Insomnia and anxiety often square off in a Catch-22 situation. Restful sleep is a great tool for battling anxiety and yet, anxiety is often an underlying reason for chronic insomnia. Several elements should be considered if insomnia is a problem.

  • The bedroom should be quiet and without distractions.
  • Turn off all devices thirty minutes before retiring. Your mind needs time in order to process all the information it’s been fed.
  • Consider supplements that complement dietary changes. Besides eliminating caffeine and sugar in the evening, think about drinking chamomile tea, taking melatonin, and full spectrum CBD gummies.

In 2015, the National Center for Biotechnology Information, or NCBI, published the results of studies regarding cannabidiol, or CBD. The results are promising.  You can also ensure you get a good night’s sleep by implementing a night routine. This will train your mind to know that it’s time to rest and relax.

Deep Breathing

Deep breathing and its cousin, meditation, are known to have profound results in the battle against anxiety. It only takes ten minutes of daily practice to master this calming routine and has a long-lasting impact. We learn to face challenges with quiet, focused intent. There are many apps and videos available to guide you through the process. Take some time in your morning everyday to do some deep breathing. Doing this first thing in the morning can set the tone for the rest of the day. You will be surprised at the large difference this simple step can make.

Monitor Your Inner Dialog

The human mind is a magnificent organ, capable of physically creating what we first see only in our imagination. We can talk ourselves into believing just about anything. Positive mantras can be effective. Changing our view from one of pessimism to one of optimism renews our confidence and lowers our anxiety level. You can start changing your inner dialog by journaling. Be positive in your journal and write down all of the things you want to achieve. Write them in a way that you already have them. This is called manifesting. It can completely change your mindset about your life and bring you peace knowing what you desire will come into your life.

If your anxiety is preventing you from doing everyday tasks, it’s time to seek medical treatment. Otherwise, you should feel noticeable relief when you practice these anxiety fighting habits every day. You might not see immediate relief at first, but establishing some healthy habits can transform your mental health.
