It’s no secret that modern cities can be quite dangerous. Despite the prevalence of CCTV, the number of people around, and the way that society has developed, walking around alone can feel quite scary for many of those living in today’s cities. Of course, though, you don’t need to live in fear. You can take action against this sort of issue, protecting yourself and staying safe when you find yourself in dangerous places. To help you out with this, this article will be exploring some of the best ways to ensure that you stay safe when you live somewhere dangerous.

Plan Your Journeys

Planning ahead is one of the best ways to avoid trouble in the modern world, and you can usually make it so that you never have to be in places completely alone. If you need to go home late at night, for example, you could arrange for someone to pick you up or walk home with you. Alternatively, you could also plan to avoid walking around at night at all. While it isn’t your fault and you should be able to walk around in your city at any time, it isn’t always as simple as this.

Avoid Crime Spots

Some areas in cities will be far more likely to have crimes occur than others. Dark alleyways, car parking lots, and other dark and lonely places are hotspots for muggings and assaults. Staying clear of areas like this will be well worth it, even if it extends your journeys and means that you have to stay out for longer. Even if it looks like no one is around, it never makes sense to place yourself into a position where you can’t get help if you come across someone who wants to do you harm.

Protection Tools

This next area is trickier than the others. There are a lot of protection tools on the market, from products like pepper spray to guns. Of course, though, you can only carry items that are legal in your country, and this means that you have to be very careful with the items you buy. It is also worth considering that reacting violently to a criminal can often result in a violent response in return. Special alarms are one of the best tools to use against attacks in public, with the sound produced often being enough to scare a criminal away.

Learning Self-Defense

Of course, while you may not be able to carry a weapon with you if your country doesn’t allow it, they can’t stop you from turning your body into a weapon. Joining a self defense academy can be a great way to overcome the challenge of dealing with criminals if you are ever approached by them. This doesn’t mean that you should be actively seeking fights, but it can give you a good way to feel confident and safe when you are out and about.

With all of this in mind, you should be feeling ready to protect yourself in the city that you call home. Many people struggle with this, finding it hard to know what needs to be done when they are trying to keep themselves safe.
