Prioritizing yourself is a challenge in this crazy world. With work schedules, family life, relationships and passion projects all intertwined, sometimes it feels as if there’s no room left to take care of yourself. Especially as you get older, perhaps starting a family, climbing the career ladder and taking on more responsibilities, finding time for yourself can be extremely challenging.

If you are one of these people who finds themselves putting their health and wellbeing at the bottom of the list, there are ways to implement change in your routine without disrupting your life too much. In fact, these steps will continue your trajectory to success, while changing your life for the better. Here are three helpful tips for prioritizing your health.

Setting The Record Straight

Everybody has visited the doctor many times in their lives. For routine tests, checkups, or perhaps more serious visits; everybody’s got medical records which are held by their doctors. If you have never looked at your medical records for yourself, you definitely should. These are simply a compilation of all the treatments and checks you’ve had, the medications you have taken, the names of them and their quantities. On top of this, you have your weight, blood pressure, allergies and any other important information you need.

To get hold of your records, contact a record retrieval company. It is important to have these documents to hand so that if you feel you are becoming unwell, you know your own history inside out.

Ten Minutes Per Day Just For You

Life can become such a whirlwind that you forget to take care of yourself. This is common for many people who enter their thirties with new families, careers on the line and mortgages to pay. Things just become so overwhelming that your own health becomes the last thing you’re worried about.

Everybody can find ten minutes in their day to do something for themselves. Ten minutes less sleep is not going to affect you in the morning; ten minutes out of your lunch break can change your whole day. Ten minutes can be the time in which you do a short workout; practice a guided meditation; do ten minutes of yoga or put down your phone and read a book. These are life-changing activities to put into practice for a little bit of wellness me-time.

The First Step Is The Hardest

If you know you want to change something in your life, be it your eating habits, exercise regime, your mental health or your job situation, the first step is always the hardest part. Seeking therapy, changing your diet or leaving a secure job is frightening, but if it’s the right thing, it’s important for your growth as a human being. Taking the steps towards a healthier, brighter future is hard; once you get there, you’ll thank yourself for being brave.

If you feel you want to make a change, talk to a trusted friend or family member. Remember: others are invested in your health, too – let them in, and trust your instincts.
