Instagram is no longer a niche social media platform for people who just want to show off their photography skills. There are so many people who now go on Instagram just to pass the time, that it seems silly not to take advantage of this. You might be thinking that no one knows your brand at the minute, but that doesn’t matter.

Instagram is used by over 500 million people, meaning that it has the power to take your brand from nothing all the way up to the top. This obviously won’t happen overnight, so you’ll have to make sure that you do everything you can to get your posts read by the users of Instagram. Keep on reading to find out how to do that…

Understand Your Audience

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to any person who knows a thing or two about marketing. You cannot do anything without understanding your audience. When you are planning on creating a viral Instagram post, you need to know exactly what your audience wants to see. Is your business aimed at a younger audience? What is the product that you are selling? These are the sort of questions that you need to be asking yourself.

If you are selling a product that is for a certain thing, then you need to make sure that you have a post that will grab the attention of your audience and will be about something that they want. There’s no point doing a post about healthy foods, if your audience is interested in cars say. Now of course, not all posts will go viral, however, it’s better to aim big, then not have a goal at all.

Know When to Post

Did you know that there are good and bad times to post things on Instagram? Apparently, the best time to post something on Instagram is between 2-3PM in general. However, this rule doesn’t always work well for everyday of the week. For example, the best day to post something on Instagram is on a Thursday, not just at 3PM, but also at 5AM, 11AM and 4Pm as well.

Now if you’re thinking that five in the morning is to early post something, then don’t worry. You can easily schedule Instagram posts, so you won’t have to worry about getting up super early. These timings all make sense though, particularly when you consider the daily mood and routine that people have. Posting something at 5AM works because people normally check their phone as soon as they get up. It’s a good idea to play around though, and see what time works best for you though.

Use the Relevant Hashtags

Do you care about the hashtags that you use? Have you even thought about making sure that you use the relevant hashtags? You can use hashtags to expand your reach, they can be campaign specific or general. However, the most important thing that you make sure that you do, is make sure that they are relevant. You should also make sure that you use about three or five hashtags per post.

You should use your own hashtags; however, you should also make sure to incorporate more well know hashtags like #instagood or #tbt (Throwback Thursday). There are so many others that you can use, so you just have to find the right one for you. It doesn’t just stop with hashtags though, there is a lot that goes on with Instagram, so it’s important that you know how it works and how you can make it work well for your business.
