This summer I’ve learned a lot about all of the things I’ve been missing out on. I live in the White Mountains of Northern New Hampshire. There are so many beautiful mountains to hike and plenty of places to camp. Not to mention the fishing, swimming and nature walks and drives.

Now that I’m getting healthier, losing weight (65 pounds lost so far!), and really connecting with nature a whole lot more it’s time to get geared up! There are still a few weeks left of summer and in the fall here in New England hiking will be the ultimate adventure thanks to the beautiful, colorful foliage!

I just signed my family up for a really fun program called “Mountains of Family Fun” nearby at Franconia Notch State Park. It’s a series of interactive programs presented by the Appalachian Mountain Club where we will discover HikeSafe, Staying found with NE K-9, Leave No Trace , and Astronomy/Solar observations plus a family hike to a place called, “Artists Bluff.” The name alone is enough to get me running up the mountain!

My goal for next summer is to hike Mt. Washington – home of the World’s Worst Weather and the highest peak in the Northeastern United States at 6,288 ft. I’ve started hiking here and there, trying to try one new place each weekend. Each place is slightly bigger than the last, working my way up to that big climb!

If there’s one thing I know – besides physical conditioning, I’m going to need to be prepared with top notch outdoor adventure sports gear. Lucky for me The Clymb currently has some awesome clearance hiking gear and discount outdoor gear.  The first two Outdoor Adventure Sports Gear things I’m buying are new packs. I found these two on The Clymb and immediately fell in love.

The Madden Equipment Penguin Pack

32 liter penguin

Madden Equipment aims to build the last pack you’ll ever have to own, and the hand-sewn details speak for themselves. The 32-liter Penguin has a traditional top-loading design with additional storage space in the lid, perfect for overnight excursions, a trip to the crag, or anywhere else your adventurous spirit takes you.

CAMELBAK Women’s Day Starwomens day star camelbak

I think I’ll have the hubs carry the Penguin and I’ll don the Women’s Day Star Camelbak. Seriously, I think I need one of these on my back all day even at my desk! Kidding! (I think!) This Camelbak is a women’s-specific hydration pack with enough room to fit a day’s worth of hiking gear. And it’s only $54.98 right now!

Talk to me! Are you into hiking? What are your outdoor adventure sports gear must haves?

    1. I’m ordering it right after I finish the whole Back to School shopping fiasco! Three kids – none of which fit in anything they wore before summer anymore.

  1. I love that penguin pack! I’ve hiked the highest peak in Georgia but it doesn’t compare to Mt. Washington!

  2. I’m not a hiker by nature, but I do love walking on trails. We did a bunch of trails this past spring with my son’s Cub Scout pack that were lots of fun.

  3. I LOVE hiking! I recently took my son on a hike and he has caught the hiking fever as well! I would love one of these backpacks they look amazing!

  4. We use one of these when we go hiking! I love having it. I think we’re going to have to get another one.
