omelet kids who cookKids in the Kitchen!

No matter how old my son gets, or how much he outgrows “mommy and me” time, there’s one place he’s still willing to hang out with me- in the kitchen. He’ll be turning 15 in two weeks (gasp!) and he has better cooking skills than some of the adults I know. He loves to cook, bake and will try any recipe I suggest.

My other kids really enjoy cooking, too! My almost 13 year old daughter (double gasp!) is always asking to help me prepare dinner.

And the little guy, now officially eight (whoa! what?!), loves to help me bake the most. His favorite show has been Cake Boss for the last few months. In fact, we are planning a trip to Pennsylvania for a week in June and visiting DC, the Statue of Liberty, Lancaster, PA, Hershey, and stopping into one of the Carlo’s Bakery locations. Of all of those things “Cake Boss” is first on his list!

Benefits to Kids in the Kitchen

The first, and most important benefit of having your kids help out in the kitchen is family time! It’s a great time to bond with your kids while teaching them some important life skills. Teaching your kids to cook also has some additional benefits like:

  • Responsibility: Kids in the kitchen have to learn how to be responsible. Safety comes first, especially when kids are cooking!
  • Self Esteem: Nothing makes this mom more proud than a proud child who is ecstatic over what they have accomplished!
  • Education: There are lots of aspects to cooking that use math, science and reading. Cooking with kids is a great way to teach them about measurements, why certain food are added to a recipe and how to read carefully.
  • Food Exploration: Kids in the kitchen often want to try new things like different recipes and a wider selection of fruits, vegetables and other foods they might have left on their plate had they not cooked it themselves!

What are some of the other benefits you think kids get out of learning to cook?

Ozeri Green Earth Pan

As soon as my almost 15 year old saw this pan on the counter he wanted to cook! He decided to make an omelet and he sure did a great job! Check it out at the top of this post. I have never had an omelet come out looking so great!

The Ozeri Green Earth Smooth Ceramic Nonstick Frying Pan is 100-Percent PTFE and PFOA Free. My kiddo found that it was non-stick and really cooked evenly! I love that it is scratch resistant, especially when there are kids in the kitchen- and metal utensils in the house. Accidents happen but in this case- scratches don’t! And, neither do we worry about chemicals from typical scratch resistant cookware.

According to Ozeri, the features of the Green Earth Smooth Ceramic Nonstick Frying pan include:

  • Unlike other ceramic cookware brands, the Ozeri pan utilizes an ultra-safe ceramic coating inspired by nature which is 100% PTFE and PFOA free.
  • Delivers unprecedented non-stick performance without releasing harmful fumes or toxins at high temperatures.
  • Features a scratch-resistant 100 percent ceramic coating that is super easy to clean.
  • Made out of durable heavy-gauge die-cast aluminum with no heavy metals or harmful chemicals.
  • Boasts a comfortable heat resistant Bakelight handle, and a magnetized induction stove safe base for rapid heat transfer.

  1. I love Ozeri’s pans! Those pans truly don’t stick to food and it last for years with proper care.

Glad to see your sons loves to cook! I hope my daughters when they’re that age like cooking too.

  2. My son loves to help me out in the kitchen. Only problem is a meal that would take about 30 minutes to get ready will take close to one hour lol So when I do cook with him I plan ahead. Wish I had a nice pan like yours to make omelets, mine is old and need an upgrade!

  3. Your son’s omelet looks fantastic! It’s so nice that the Ozeri pan inspired him to get cooking. Having great tools to work with in the kitchen is a must for great cooks!

  4. Your son is quite the chef, that looks amazing. I will have to check out the Ozeri collection, we just moved and our pots and pans were lost in transit somewhere – gotta love moving companies sometimes!

  5. I think it’s fantastic that you are encouraging your son to cook. I agree that there are so many benefits of it – including a future wife who will be eternally grateful!

  6. I married a man who burns water. So all of my kids are taught how to cook! Good for you to encourage them in the kitchen.

  7. My son loves to cook too. He makes a big mess but it is worth it for him to learn. 🙂 I actually love Ozeri products.

  8. Once we were in high school, my sister and I each made dinner for the family once a week. It was so much fun… shhhhh don’t tell my mom that!

  9. I haven’t tried the Ozeri Green Earth pan yet, but I want to. I think all mothers should take a lesson from you and teach their boys to cook.

  10. Seems like a great addition to my kitchen. I have heard so many good things about these Ozeri Green pans lately.

  11. I’m glad you are teaching your kids to cook! I always cooked with my mom growing up and my husband learned to cook when he was young too. I think it is a great skill to have!

  12. While I don’t have their Green Earth Pan, I do have other Ozeri pans and products. I think they are some of the best that I own! How cool you get your teen to cook. Mine doesn’t want to learn anything further than figuring out the microwave.

  13. Wow looks great. A green product and the kids love it. This is so something I have to look into. My little one love helping out. She just turned seven and her specialty is eggs.

  14. I have one of these pans and I love it.

I also love that your kids are in the kitchen and learning how to cook. They will thank you for that for the rest of their lives. My oldest son knows how to cook somewhat but my younger one never enjoyed it.

  15. I have got to try one of those pans! & I love that your kids love to cook! It’s pretty cool that your 15 year old is really into cooking.

  16. What a great chef! That omelette looks delicious. My little guy is only 3 but he loves to help me make fishcakes and stuff and I love having him help in the kitchen. I hope he will continue to enjoy it when he gets bigger. Thanks so much for joining in with the #pinitparty. Have pinned 🙂

  17. My 5 yr old loves to cook with me! I need to let her in there more often. This pan looks like a really great one. I am in the market for a new skillet!

  18. I like how green that pan is! I wished my mom taught me more things in the kitchen, but at least I got the basics 😛
