Help Find Abigail Hernandez

For the last week I’ve been watching the news, reading Facebook updates and keeping my ears, and eyes, peeled for a 15 year old girl from North Conway, NH. Abigail Hernandez, better known as Abby, was last seen leaving school on October 9th in North Conway, NH. She was 14 and her 15th birthday came and went in the days that followed. Abby wasn’t there to blow out the candles on her cake or thank her friends and family for the birthday wishes.

As a mother I can only imagine the true turmoil Abby’s family is suffering from. My own heart aches for them, and for Abby- people I’ve never met. I’m a “small town girl” and things like this fortunately rarely happen around here. When something like this happens we see the affected community come together and the efforts ripple through other communities around our great state of New Hampshire.

The last case of a missing girl was two years ago about an hour north of me, Abby went missing about 45 minutes south of me. She disappeared from a place I’m familiar with, where I shop or take my family for the day almost monthly. I have friends in the area, one who has a daughter that is friends with Abby- desperately awaiting her return home.

I feel utterly helpless and the only way I could think of to help is to share Abby’s info here on this blog and help put her face in front of the biggest audience possible. You can show your support and follow updates on the Facebook Page, Missing Help Find Abigail Hernandez.

December 6, 2013 UPDATE

Law enforcement held a press conference this morning. The photos above are of images believed to be in Abby’s possession. Abby wrote a letter to her mother on October 22nd, it was postmarked October 23rd and arrived to her mother on November 6th. Authorities have determined that the letter was in fact from Abby but wouldn’t disclose any adidtional details. They are asking that the public be vigilant and watching for new neighbors with a girl matching Abby’s description and do not feel that Abby is safe regardless of how/why she disappeared. Thank you all for continuing to share Abby’s story. As a Mom I agree with Law Enforcement, Abby is not at home with her mother and so this case remains important! Below is a quote from CBS News summarizing the press conference.

CONCORD, N.H. (CBS) — Calling it “unprecedented,” law enforcement officials announced during a news conference on Friday that a missing New Hampshire teenager who disappeared two months ago on her way home from school wrote a letter to her mother that was postmarked two weeks after her disappearance.

Police say an extensive examination of the letter, which was dated October 22 and postmarked October 23, indicates it most likely came from 15-year-old Abigail Hernandez, who remains missing. Investigators say the letter was received on November 6.

Authorities refused to disclose its contents or indicate where it may have been sent from, saying they are concerned the information could produce hoax letters.
