When you are looking for a new home there are certain important things you need to remember to help the process run as smoothly as possible. Moving house can be one of the most stressful things that people experience so getting things prepared and organized are key. So, the first thing you will want to do is make a list of things that you want in the property, things that you won’t negotiate on. It may be that you are looking for a terrace house in a good location close to your work, or that you need there to be a bath or at least space to put one in. Having these wants to be written down and ready to go it will make the house buying process easier and save you time looking at houses that you aren’t going to like. So your real estate agent will be able to find the best-suited available houses for you and hopefully within your budget.

If you are looking for a new house it is most likely you are selling your own house too, unless it is your first house where you are moving out of the family home. When putting your house on the market you may want to change things up a bit in the house to make it easier to sell. You will get a lot of tips from your estate agent too.  Buyers like to almost see a blank canvas when viewing a property, it makes it easier for them to imagine living there and with all their stuff in that house. If you have bold colors or wallpaper that might not be to everyone’s taste, although a small thing it may seem, painting them a plain white or cream will make your house more sellable. After you have done that, a beneficial thing to do not only to sell the house but to make it easier for you to move is to de-clutter.

Over our lives, we end up with a lot of junk, stuff that just sits three and doesn’t get used. We have books we have read and may never read again or haven’t even read, clothes that no longer fit us, and just knick-knacks around the house which are there for the sake of it. This makes the house look a lot more untidy than it needs to be and can put off potential buyers. So by setting aside some time for all of the family to get involved and get rid of things you no longer need or use. The benefit will have for you as well as you won’t be unnecessarily packing things and taking up spaces in boxes and moving more stuff than you need to. So pack it all up and see if your friends or family want any of it and if not, give it to charity. If you have the time you can always sell it as well and make some money to go towards costs but it can be quite time-consuming.

One of the worries about moving house with your families is how the children will react especially if you are relocating to a different area. It can fill them with anxiety and make them feel uneasy at the thought of being away from their friends, moving schools, and feeling like they are going to be starting over. It is important to help them get acquainted with the new house and the area. One of the things you can do is take them with you for a viewing where they can see the house and pick out their bedroom, it might help them feel more excited about having a new room to decorate and make their own. Then by taking them around the area and seeing what there is to do and what great things about the new area there is it again will help them settle into the idea of living there.

When moving house packing and unpacking can take a lot of time and can sometimes confuse you when you’ve moved everything especially if they haven’t been labeled correctly. A great tip on dealing with this is getting some colored permanent markers and assigning a color to each room. So when you are taking the moving boxes out of the truck into the house you will easily be able to work out what box needs to go in what room. It will make every run so much smoother.

Moving house is a long and exhausting process especially on moving day, so a few good ways to keep your energy up and make sure everyone is fed is by getting everything prepared beforehand. For breakfast on moving day, grab something or order a delivery which will save you time and effort, you can then quickly enjoy a filling breakfast, make sure you’ve got carbs and some vegetables or fruit in there so that you have the energy to get you through the morning. In regards to lunchtime, you will most likely be running about like a headless chicken or on the road to the new house, so making a packed lunch for everyone is the easiest option. Sandwiches, snacks, fruit, and vegetables as well as something sugary to give them a boost for the afternoon. Having this all done the night before will save you a lot of time and will be very easy to distribute on the day during lunchtime.

After you’ve moved everything, have a sofa to sit on but not much else as it is all in boxes you certainly don’t want to be cooking a meal. A takeaway is a must! Research some of the best-rated places local to your new house and see what everyone would prefer, then you can sit back, relax and enjoy a family meal of something delicious that you didn’t have to cook while surrounded by boxes and boxes of things that will happily wait until the morning. These will help the moving process be a lot easier and go so much smoother.
