There comes a time in all our lives when we reach a stalemate in our careers. No matter if it is something we have been doing for years and excel at, such as working with directional control valves or being in a healthcare business, we can all get to a point where we fancy something new. There are many reasons you might be feeling this way and it is important to address them sooner rather than later. Being in a lockdown has had many people all around the world reconsidering their life choices and deciding if what they are doing is really their life calling. If this is you, it could be that you are heading towards the time for a career change. There are many factors that can play a part in this and it is not a decision that you will want to take lightly. Here are some ways you can find out if it is time for a career change…

  1. You no longer have any motivation

If you no longer feel motivated to work, then it could be a clear sign you are ready to move on. If you used to feel excited about what was going on in your everyday working life, put your absolute all into everything you did and were directly involved in the outcome, but this has now waned, it is not a good sign. Think carefully about why this motivation has dwindled – is it because you don’t like a certain project you are working on? Or is it because you aren’t getting paid enough? Why not speak to your manager first and see if there is anything that can be done?

  1. You feel you are not learning anything new

If you find you’ve got everything out of the job that you will ever get, then it is time to move on. It could be that you have reached the top of the career ladder in that field and you can’t physically progress any higher, or that the role above yours isn’t one you want to do. No matter the reason, this symbolizes it’s time for a change.

  1. Your job is affecting your personal life

If you find that your work stresses and worries are pouring into your personal life it is time to move on. Your personal life should be a priority and if you can no longer take vacations with your family, or feel stressed all the time this can have a huge impact.

These are just a few signs that it is time for you to make a career change. Remember that the motto is we work to live, not live to work. If you find that your career is no longer making you happy and you want to do something else, don’t be afraid to do this. Your happiness is the most important thing and you should try to make all aspects in your life as happy as they can be. What are some ways that you knew it was time for a career change?
