Summer camp is an experience that your child will take with them for the rest of their life. Most campers will remember hikes and roasting marshmallows with new friends. However, with the recent pandemic, the ability to go to summer camp has vanished for many children. However, that does not mean that you cannot make your own remote Summer camp for your kids! If you want to give them the best camping experience possible from home, here are some summer camp ideas for you to use.

Teach Them Something Useful

Believe it or not, children actually enjoy learning. This is especially true if they are learning outside of the typical boring school environment. Also, it’s even more true when they are learning something they want to know.

Normally, if your child is into computers, you could send them to a coding bootcamp. Or, if your child is into animals, you would look for a camp involving horses or a farm. Now you can try to focus on exploring these things in your own home! Take inspiration from the websites of coding, smoking, or even horse camps, and see what you can teach you kids from home.

At the end of the day, they’ll be grateful for the fun learning experience, and you didn’t even have to leave your home.

Pick a whimsical Theme

Most camps don’t have a theme besides “summer camp”. Make your camp special by including a special cool theme that will attract your kids and keep them excited. Some popular camp theme ideas include:

  • space camp
  • Dr. Suess
  • sports camp
  • survival camp (consider incorporating zombies)
  • horse camp
  • around the world
  • dinosaurs
  • Disney

These are just a list of examples. The options are limitless. Use your imagination! Use the theme to create the itinerary for the duration of the camp. Always choose a big, fun event for everyone to look forward to at the end of camp. You should also use the theme to decorate the camp and the living quarters.

Include the Parents

Many children struggle with camp since they aren’t able to see their parents. However, now parents can be as involved as the children want! You and your spouse can help with anything from art, answering questions, to even cooking with your kids. Or, if your kids are older, it is okay to simply sit back and enjoy seeing your kids be happy. You could judge the food they make, comment on their stylish art, or still help them answer questions that they can’t figure out on their own.

Options

Kids like to make their own decisions about what to do with their day. Offer your campers plenty of options each day so that they can customize their own camp experience to be the best for them. Include artistic activities, backyard activities, and mentally stimulating activities. Let the children know if certain activities can only be done at a certain time. By keeping them in the loop, your kids are sure to enjoy the chance they have to customize their stay at home Summer camp experience.

Help Campers Develop Friendships

One of the most important parts of camp is getting to make new friends outside or inside of school. It helps campers develop social skills as they get to know new people. This can be tricky to implement at home, but you can still manage to accomplish this with technology. Contact your kid’s friend’s parents, maybe your at home summer camp can be virtually connected to other kids nearby. This allows your kids to have fun! Make friends, and still get social interaction from their home camp experience.

Do Good

Even though camp is a time for fun, it’s also a time for kids to fight for a better cause. Help teach the kids how to stay clean while camping. You can even offer some activities that contribute to local conservation efforts, such as learning the importance of trees or an endangered species. You can teach the kids how to be good to Mother Nature and possibly encourage good environmental behavior for the rest of their life.

Camp is a time for children to do the things they enjoy while also meeting new friends. It’s also a time for them to learn about the things that are important in the world. Help them get the most out of this experience while adapting to the demands of the world we live in.
