For many people, the mere idea of sitting in an office at the same desk, doing the same tasks day in and day out is enough to drive them batty. Not everyone is cut out for an office job, nor do they have an interest in it. The good news is that there are so many different types of jobs out there that take place outside the traditional office environment, that if you can’t see yourself sitting at a desk there’s no reason to force it.

Here we’ll take a look at four career options that will get you out of that desk job, and out of the office environment altogether.

Certified HVAC Technician

Do you enjoy working with your hands, are mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, enjoy working with the public, like being challenged and acting as a problem solver? If so, then it may be time to look into being certified as an HVAC technician. Each day as an HVAC technician will be new and unique, and you won’t be sitting at a desk. Instead, you’ll be heading out on service calls in order to connect and install air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration systems.

In order to become a technician, you’ll need to get certified, which is done through schools such as the HVAC schools in Michigan. Not to worry, every state has HVAC schools, it’s just a matter of finding one near you. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the mean annual wage for an HVAC mechanic and installer is $47,450.

Greenhouse, Nursery, and Gardening Managers

If you’re the type that loves to work outdoors and has a green thumb – a real love for greenery and nature – then a job as a greenhouse, nursery, and gardening manager could be perfect for you. The majority of your work will be done outside, you’ll be working with the public and there is a creative aspect to this job as you will be helping people to come up with garden design and decor ideas. Also, you’ll need to brush up on your hands-on gardening and landscaping skills and knowledge of where plants, shrubs, trees, and flowers go.

Flight Attendants

If you’ve got a passion for travel and would love to be able to travel to new and faraway places, then a job as a flight attendant could provide you with the kind of lifestyle you’re after. You can choose to work on a domestic route or local corridor or apply for the international routes and start to check off the destinations you have on your bucket list. Your “office” will be the plane and you’ll be working with new passengers each and every shift.

The Construction Industry

If you happen to be good with tools and have an interest in trades and construction, then the construction industry can also be a wonderful path to examine. You can work in the commercial, industrial, residential or public industry. You can even work your way up in the field to construction manager.

This is just a small look at the many careers that get you out of the office environment and provide you with unique and rewarding opportunities.
