Yesterday, my “little baby girl,” Kendra, turned 16. Yes, that’s SIXTEEN years old. Where does the time go? Kendra’s not your typical 16 year old so celebrating her sweet 16 had to be a little out of the box. And, I think I pulled it off! I secretly reached out to her good friend and my mom and began planning for an action packed birthday in Boston!

Living in northern New Hampshire, we don’t get to explore all of the amazingness that Boston has to offer very often. We can, and did, do it as a day trip but when I crawled into bed at 1:30am this morning I decided that all future Boston trips would be overnight stays. However tired I was (still am), it was all worth it to hear my daughter’s belly laughs turn to snorts over and over again throughout the day. This girl had the time of her life yesterday!

First up, we hit the road with birthday cake pops for the birthday girl and her bff. We stopped for lunch on our way south at my literally absolutely favorite low carb lunch spot – Five Guys Burgers and Fries. No one is paying me to tell you how awesome they are. The burgers are fresh and juicy and delish, wrapped in lettuce with unlimited toppings (that means extra bacon, for real). Okay, moving on …

Blue Man Group Boston

Once we arrived in Boston, my daughter still had no idea where we were going or what we were doing. We parked and began our short walk through the old brick lined sidewalks to the Charles Playhouse Theatre where she spotted the Blue Man Group Boston sign and the first secret was out!

Then, this happened …

For the record, I’m still alive! It was so awesome to have an entire audience helping me wish my girl a happy birthday! The Blue Man Group was hilarious, so entertaining and interactive and is definitely a show that I would see again! Plus, who can resist a photo with a Blue Man?

Have you ever seen a Blue Man Group show? If you have you probably already know how much fun it is. If you haven’t, you’re in for a treat!

Blue Man Group combines music, technology and comedy to create a form of entertainment that defies categorization and appeals to people of all ages.

Delighted, indeed. After Blue Man Group, we headed to Fire+Ice Bar and Grill. Blue Man Group ticket holders get a discount of around 15% off their bill. It’s a short walk from the show and a great way to see some old brick Boston streets. Beautiful and fun to see for this NH group of gals!

Feed your fun ALL day! Create your own meal at the world’s largest grill for 15% off when you show your Blue Man Group tickets. FiRE+iCE is the place where friends and families can come together and let their imaginations run wild. Picky eaters and foodies alike will all be sure to have a good time as the Grill Chefs dazzle and juggle right in front of you!

The food selection was pretty good, and once cooked on that cool grill, it was delicious. But, it proved to be a little too chaotic of an experience for the girls. I think they were overwhelmed by the very process that I thought would have them super excited. Not a bad place, it just wasn’t the best fit for us.

Case in point – one of the girls put a burger patty in her bowl and brought it up to the grill. They grilled it up, offered bacon, cheese and a bun when it was just about done and then gave her her burger. That’s all great except that burger cost me $20.

Next up – a quick walk back to the car then a short drive over to Rowe’s Wharf to check in to Classic Harbor Line.

Sailabrating a Birthday in Boston

Our Sunday funday Birthday in Boston adventures were amazing and this experience was the icing on the cake! What made this so special was the crew on the ship. They blew me away. Dear Classic Harbor Line – the staff on board the Sunday, May 7, 2017 Sunday Night Jazz Cruise is AWESOME and I do mean awesome!

Please give them a pat on the back, a raise, something – because they truly deserved it! Kind, informative – just an amazing couple of guys! And, while I’m singing their praises – I can’t forget The Benjamin Trio who played a beautiful version of Happy Birthday in my birthday girl’s honor! Such a talented band – and they’re onboard the ship every Sunday night!

Here is the description for our particular journey from their website:

Boston Jazz Cruise aboard Yacht Northern Lights

What better way to enjoy and evening than on a Boston Jazz Cruise.  Grab that special guy or gal, or a couple of happy-footed friends who enjoy the sounds of live music and step aboard the elegant Northern Lights, for a journey back to the Jazz era. Allow your senses to take you back in time with the sights of our 1920s styled New England Yacht combined with sounds of jazz, presented by the Benjamin Young Trio. The Benjamin Young Trio is a young, talented, up-and-coming, group of Jazz musicians from the Berklee School of Music. Cruise through the harbor enjoying the City Lights as they dazzle on the waters of Boston Harbor, grab a glass of champagne or a mixed drink from the bar and dance with your sweetheart on this one of a kind cruise. This is the perfect Boston Jazz Cruise for snuggling up with a loved one’s or dancing with a group of friends to the sounds of the Benjamin Young Trio.

Now, I’m likely off to take a nap! I think Kendra’s birthday in Boston was a success!
