En-suite bathrooms are incredibly useful. Instead of fighting for access to the family bathroom every morning, you can enjoy a leisurely shower or shave in peace, without worrying about teenagers and cranky kids banging on the door. Of course not all homes are blessed with an en-suite bathroom attached to the master bedroom, but if you have the space, it makes sense to add one.

Slimline Radiators

Unfortunately, unless you live in a mansion, your en-suite is likely to be a bit on the small side. Most people barely have room to fit a shower, let alone a separate bath or his and hers vanity unit. Still, there are plenty of ways to make the most of what little space you do have. For starters, a smart new designer radiator from Warm Rooms will add much-needed space for towels whilst providing an essential source of heat. So do away with your old-fashioned radiator and switch to a modern ladder style instead.

Mirror, Mirror

Using mirrors is a clever way to make a space feel a lot larger than it actually is. Floor to ceiling mirror tiles are probably a bit much in a small en-suite bathroom – unless you are supremely body confident. However, using mirror tiles on one wall will create the illusion of extra space, but be prepared to spend a lot of time wiping down the mirrored surface, as it won’t take long for steam and splashes to leave water marks and lime scale deposits.

Extra Floor Space

The more clutter you have on your bathroom floor, the more cramped the area will feel. A simple way of making a small bathroom feel larger is to do away with traditional fixtures and fittings and replace them with hanging units instead. The more floor space you can see, the larger the room will appear. Modern vanity units that ‘float’ rather than fix to the floor are super stylish and a great space saver. Check out the latest designs and see which styles appeal. You should be able to find one that suits your budget without any difficulty.

Wet Rooms

Traditional shower cubicles can soon make a small en-suite appear even smaller. Most people do not enjoy having a shower in a small, cramped cubicle and the larger you are, the less fun it is. Converting an en-suite into a wet room is a great space saving solution, especially if your en-suite is a non-standard shape. Wet rooms are best suited to ground floor en-suite bathrooms, but as long as you ensure the room is professionally waterproofed, it is possibly to convert an upper floor en-suite into a wet room.

Light and Bright

Use colour and light to create the illusion of extra space. White tiles and pale colours are always the best choice for a small en-suite. Replace a central light with recessed halogen ceiling lights to make the space feel lighter and larger.

Keep clutter to a minimum when you have a small en-suite. Use built-in storage and get rid of unnecessary lotions and potions, or you won’t have room to move in there.
