7 Ways to Make Sure Your Kids Have Fun at Home this Summer

Kids love summer, but it can often be a challenge to come up with activities to keep them busy. It can be hard to get to the park all the time if you have things at home that need to be done. Also, so many summer activities, such as water parks and beach trips, can do a number on the family budget. Here is a list of seven ways to keep your kids happy this summer without even leaving home:

  1. A Backyard Pool
A pool can bring your kids hours and hours of fun. There is always something to do when you have a pool in the yard. You don’t have to spend thousands putting a pool just to enjoy the summer months. Families on a budget can invest in an above ground pool for as little as $300. They are easy to put up require hardly any maintenance. Just imagine how excited your kids will be to jump in the pool every day. You will also appreciate a reprieve from the summer heat.
  2. Play Sets
Why waste time and gas driving to the park, when you can bring the park home. Play sets come is all kinds of different sizes with just as many options. Kids love swings, slides, and sandboxes. Getting a combo of all three will have them excited just to go outside. It’s a great way to make sure your kids are getting the activity they crave while keeping them where you can see them (Source: Tree Frogs Wooden Swing Set Factory).
  3. Trampoline
Kids are high energy and need to burn that energy off before bedtime. A great way to make that happen is with a trampoline. They’re easy to set up and a ton of fun. Your kids will want to go and jump for hours on end. With a trampoline at home, your trouble might be talking them into leaving the house.
  4. Sprinklers
You more than likely have to water your lawn during the summer anyway, so why not let those sprinklers play double duty as a splash park? Let the kids run around in their suits (or even their clothes!) trying to dodge the spray. The peals of laughter will definitely make their afternoon.
  5. Fire pit
Another piece inexpensive outdoor equipment perfect for summer fun. An outdoor fire pit is the perfect spot for an evening bonfire with roasted weenies and marshmallows. If you are really ambitious, you can add a tent and a couple sleeping bags for an at-home camp out experience.
  6. Grow a garden
This is great way for kids to have fun and learn at the same time. Let them pick out what to put in the garden and choose where to plant it. They will love getting to eat fruits and veggies that they grew themselves. If you have limited space, you can still enjoy a small tomato or strawberry plant.

  7. Start a book club

If your kids enjoy indoor activities as much as the outdoors, then a summer book club might be just the ticket. Pick out a few kids summer classics and have them read them and get together and talk about them every week or see. Not only does this encourage reading, but it also makes great memories.

Try out one of these ideas or even all seven if you are really ambitious. It will make for one of the easiest summers of your life and one of the most fun summers for your kids. Depending on where you live, a lot of these ideas can even be enjoyed into the fall.
