Schoolyard Bullying

Schoolyard Bullying: How Parents and Children Can Handle Child Bullying (Kindle Edition) ($0.99)

This eBook is an excellent resource for all parents, whether they think they should be worried about bullying now or not. Pamela “Penlady” Jones does an excellent job at leading her readers through the main points of bullying. It’s clear that she’s done her research and filled this short eBook full of the main points about bullying. I especially loved that this book was not written as a one-sided view of bullying. Child bullies clearly have parents, somewhere, and I appreciate that Jones included a section for them. Although I think hard work and proactive efforts go a long way toward preventing bullying, this is a helpful resource for parents caught in that place where they’ve just learned that their child IS a bully. The tips for parents that are dealing with their own child being bullied are right on and I like that the focus is on those parents staying calm. There’s nothing worse than going into a heated situation, well, heated. I truly believe that the first step that the parent of a bullied child should take is to empower themselves with the facts of the situation and the knowledge on how to handle it. Downloading this helpful guide is a great step toward empowerment.

The book is broken out into the following sections:

  • An Introduction to Child Bullying
  • Understanding Child Bullying
  • The Truth about Bullies
  • Signs and Symptoms of Bullying
  • Cyber Bullying: High Tech Harassment
  • Ten Things Your Child Shouldn’t Do if They’re Bullied
  • Common Mistakes Parents Make When Their Child is Bullied
  • How Parents Can Help Stop Bullying
  • What if Your Child is the Bully?
  • Conclusion
  • Resources
  • About the Author

Looking at the list above, you can see that Jones leaves nearly no stone unturned. She really does a great job explaining all sides of bullying and gives excellent tips and facts along the way. Did you know that one in five children are bullied? And, even more surprising, bullying can start in Preschool! I know that bullying is an issue, from personal experience, both as a child myself and as the parent of a child that is all too often bullied. Some of my additional thoughts on the subject are here. Recently, I learned of a bully in my six year old’s first grade classroom. I was shocked to hear of his behaviors at such a young age but this eBook really helped to put that issue into perspective for me. And, it gave me insight on how to talk to my six year old about the bully in his class. Thanks, PenLady!
